Rhys Jones

Rhys Jones MBE

Vice President

Rhys was born in 1927 and he spent his childhood years at Ffynnongroyw, Caerwys and Trelawnyd where he attended the village school. He went on to Rhyl Grammar School where he began to show an interest and talent for music. On leaving school he trained as a teacher and after spending two years in the Royal Airforce, began teaching and this included spells at Holywell High School and Ysgol Maes Garmon, Mold where he became Deputy Head until his retirement.

If teaching was his livelihood, music is his life and his contribution has been varied and rich. He was much in demand as accompanist and adjudicator, in the concert world he made a name for himself as conductor of the famed Gwalia Singers and as a witty and highly competent compere. He is also a talented composer and arranger of music but to many he is best known as the presenter of his long lived Radio Wales programme 'Taro Nodyn' presenting 'middle of the road' melodies. He is an avid admirer of any successes gained by the choir which is delighted to welcome him as Honorary Vice President.
